A STORY THAT BEGAN IN THE 16th CENTURY
Perrotti Tower, striking and mysterious, stands proudly just steps from the sea, guarding centuries of history and witnessing distant times. Built in the early 1500s, it was first recorded in 1512 in the land registry of the noble Sanseverino family, who ruled over Castellabate. Originally known by different names, such as Torre ubi dicitur la Pagliarola and Torre in marittima constructa, it was built to protect the coastline from threats coming from the sea.
From defensive tower...
Rising near the ancient port known as lu Travierso, a historic harbor that for centuries was a vital hub for maritime trade and the village’s commercial life, the tower stands on a rocky spur, overlooking the horizon. Its breathtaking view stretches along the coast, from the bay to the island of Licosa, where, according to legend, sirens tried to enchant Odysseus. Its strategic position made it a guardian of the sea for centuries, a stronghold against pirate raids, and a silent witness to storms and battles.

Over time, the tower underwent several transformations. After the decline of the Sanseverino family, it passed into the hands of other noble families, until, in the 16th century, it was renovated and expanded, strengthening its defensive function with a new truncated-pyramid structure and gun platforms for artillery. Its history is also marked by dramatic moments, such as the Turkish assault on June 19, 1625, when six enemy galleys attacked the coast and looted the tower. Yet, once again, the fortress was rebuilt and made even more imposing.

...to the home of our family
since 1820.
In 1820, the tower became the property of the Perrotti family, who began a restoration to harmonize it with the attached noble palace, creating a perfect balance between the solid defensive architecture and the elegance of the aristocratic residence. Today, at the top of the palace, a beautiful panoramic terrace opens up to the sea, offering an unobstructed view, where the setting sun paints the waves with golden reflections. Nestled between the tower and the palace is a secret garden, a private corner where the scent of the sea blends with that of the Mediterranean vegetation, creating a timeless atmosphere.

Baron Tommaso Perrotti in 1838
In 1838, the English painter Arthur John Strutt, captivated by the breathtaking view, decided to immortalize the Perrotti Tower in his works, capturing the eternal dialogue between the structure and the sea. At the end of the 19th century, the geologist Cosimo De Giorgi described it as 'the viewpoint of the Perrotti Palace,' emphasizing its grandeur and scenic charm.
